Favorite Moments of My Week

"MOM! You are acting like a kid! Adults don't go sledding!!"

Well, I try anyway...
Since I only saw snow once a year at the most, sledding hasn't always been my forte' (did I spell that right?). But this life is all my children have known and they love it. The key for us is: #1 seriously good snow gear & #2 a four wheeler! Mike pulls these kids all over the place and their laughter is the best. All our neighbors came out the other day with theirs too and we pulled the kids up after they would go down this huge hill in a vacant lot by our house, only to enjoy a cup of hot chocolate in the back of a neighbors truck...that is the life!

Our children all playing happy together is not always the most frequent activity, but absolutely our favorite one!

My Pink Boot Princess is now climbing everywhere like a monkey and creating her own outfits...seriously - who knew?! Lovin it still!

Happy Anniversary Mike!

It's been an awesome 10 years. So I wanted to post some fun old schools of our glory days...if you could call it that! These are some of the reason's that I love being married Mike:

We had so much fun in college together, he even liked me with my braces on... thanks babe-

After the mission we got married so fast and I am grateful ever since. The day after he got home we were talking about it! Thanks for knowing what you want-

He is so patient with me and treats me like a queen...still-

He can take me to the Temple and loves to do it-

He is faithful and obedient & helps our family to be so as well...

He helped me graduate from college-

He gave me Mikey, who is such a great leader in our family-

He gave me Dallin, who keeps our family rolling with laughter-

He worked SO hard at Law School, which was far from easy but so worth it...

He gave me Joey, whose smile brightens our entire home...

We have so much fun together and he still plans the greatest dates...

He gave me Karly, the little princess that I have waited forever for...

I love you so much Mike and I look forward to another great 10 years with you!

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Simple Joys

Simple Joys are those moments that can’t be replaced with money, can not be redone and that time can not take away. This year we have been blessed with simple joys that have shaped our family and deepened our appreciation for Him who is the giver of all Joy.

A simple joy is finishing your first sprint Triathlon and waiting at the end so your children can cross the finish line with you. Or watching your husband coach your sons tackle football team with respect & dignity for those dear 8 year olds who are working so hard at a man’s sport. A simple joy is watching your son’s team win after they worked so hard at listening, but an even better simple joy is watching your son’s team lose and hearing him cheer on his team mates regardless.

A simple joy is coaching your other son’s indoor soccer team and still having the support of the parents when there is only one other female coach in a league of 20 male coaches. Or looking over at the sidelines to see your children cheering you on as you play in a co-ed soccer team for the first time in 13 years. A simple joy is having all the neighbour kids over to make homemade pretzels and overlooking all the cinnamon scattered on the floor because it was worth it to have them sit at the bar and talk to you for an hour. Or watching that 10 year old Webelo get his Arrow of Light award after months and months of hard work together.

A simple joy is watching your 8 year old child go down into the waters of baptism and then tell you 10 months later it was the best day of his life. Or having a very sick child ask his Dad for a Priesthood blessing because he has faith in Jesus Christ. A simple joy is teaching a lesson in church and changing it last minute because you feel it needs to go in another direction, then having the girls who were there come up to you in tears and tell you that was the best lesson they ever had. Or waking up each Saturday morning to the smell of homemade pancakes and hearing your husband teaching your children to unload the dishwasher so you can wake up to a clean kitchen.

A simple joy is having a Grandma and Grandpa move close and watching as your baby girl runs to them yelling “gampa & gamma!” Or having their other Grandma and Grandpa fly into town and seeing the excitement on their faces as they walk through the back door. A simple joy is hearing the garage door open every night and watching your children run and hide because that means Dad is home to find them. Or spending weeks and weeks at the side of your husband spreading 15 dump truck loads of topsoil just so you can lie on a bed of grass and watch the stars when you’re done.

The sweetest of simple joys is having the whisperings of the Holy Spirit tell you to go into the garage just to find you’re 1 year old in the front seat with the car on, or hearing that voice tell you to look into the pool only to find your 3 year old kicking for air at the bottom. That joy comes when you know you acted upon an impression that could have utterly changed the outcome of your life and you are so grateful that your Heavenly Father knew before you of what needed to happen.

The purest of simple joys is knowing that a baby was born to sweet Mary many years ago who came willingly to pay the price of sin for all mankind. This joy intensifies as you teach your children to serve just as the Savior did and you watch them fill school bags for children in Africa or give away their toys for nursery children in South America. Most of all, this simple joy is most tangible when you watch them come home from school and immediately open the special treat they received and hand it out to each other or run to each others aid when tears fall because of hurt and pain.

We hope all of you feel these simple joys of life as you put your trust in the Savior and allow Him to run to your aid as the hardships of life cause hurt and pain. He willingly has died so that these sorrows can be swallowed up in His Grace and Mercy. He becons us all to come unto Him and find this peace.

The gift of Adoption...

Today my dear roommate from BYU emailed me the pictures of her new twin boys she is adopting and I couldn't help but think of what a blessing this is, to both sides of the process. A hard situation can be turned into sweet goodness...my wonderful cousin and other dear friend have been given recently this same cherished gift. So today I am grateful for the blessing of sweet adoption...

Happy Thanksgiving!

We had the blessing of heading to Cali to see my family this year. So fun to see all my cute brothers together again. My kids love going there and visiting Apple Hill, the Folsom Zoo, and playing their Uncles cool video games! It rained a bit so our planned kyacking trip got cancelled, but we had a blast none the less! Our little Dallin had a pretty bad accident while we were there (ps- playing tag with Mom and Dad in the dark is NOT a good idea) and ran into a playground piece full speed with his little face. I was for sure it was so bad. But after a wonderful Priesthood blessing and lots of little prayers, he survived with nothing broken. I remembered that morning as I said my prayers that I had forgotten to ask for safety over my children. So I said another quick prayer before I left my room. I can not tell you how grateful I am for those angels who protect our sweet babies when we are not able too...

p.s. I love the picture of my Dad with all his boys playing basketball! Since each of them reach way over 6 feet tall, playing basketball in our house is like drinking water - you can't live with out it. My Dad still plays every week at the church, has since I was a little girl. He can still hang with the best of them, you rock DAD!

Humbled...

I just had news today of a dear friend from Ricks who has just been diagnosed with a rare form of non-hodgkins lymphoma (cancer of the lymph nodes)- stage 4. Just finishing up dental school, the most beautiful wife in the world and 3 handsome sons. We all feel so young, and he is...never would imagined. He is as granola and healthy as you get. Cancer does not discriminate. Oh my prayers are with you Megan and Eric, sincerely with you...

Just hug your babies tighter tonight, our lives are completely in the hands of our Creator. We must follow Him faithfully, for that is where lies all safety.

Every girl needs pink boots!

I am a firm believer that every little girl needs a pair of pink boots! Karly walks around saying "Mom - BOOTS!" all the time. She couldn't wait to join her brothers out in the snow this week and of course I had to make sure she was decked out - all in pink of course (well, I am not that particular and most of you know, but that's just what we happen to have)! She wasn't sure at first but then ended up loving it. All she could say over and over again as she stomped in the snow was "Squoosh!" "Squoosh!" "Squoosh!" Apparently she loves the sound of the crunchy snow. It was so fun to watch her, up until she fell down face first - that was way to close for comfort with the snow and she decided she was outta there.

p.s. I just couldn't bare to tell Joe that skateboards weren't made for snow, he thought it was a great invention!

p.p.s. If these boots are cute, just wait until I post a picture of her new PINK cowgirl boots! I had NO IDEA having a girl would be this much fun!!!! LOVE IT!

Humanitarian Art Show

Dallin and Mikey have been working on Art Projects for months in preparing to hold their first Art Exhibit! They hosted family and friends this last weekend and sold their art to raise money for our West Indies Service Project. They did such a great job showing everyone around and explaining their pieces. Each one has a title - it was so fun to see the descriptions of how they felt about their art! We appreciate all the wonderful friends who were able to come and help them feel important - THANK YOU!!!

BYU 45 Colorado 42!!!

This was such an awesome game!!!! The second half kept all my boys on the edge of their seat the WHOLE time! Here is their reaction to the Cougars WIN...GOOOOOOOO Cougars!

Happy Halloween!

We had one of the best Halloween's we have ever had as a family this year! Mike's firm hosted a huge Trick or Treat bash and after hitting 5 floors of attorneys and secretaries spoiling our kidlets, they could barely hold their treat baskets...no need for evening Trick or Treating! Then Mike took the rest of the day off and we went to pick out our pumpkins to carve. All our buddies in our cul-da-sac hadn't carved theirs either so we got together, rocked out to Halloween tunes and played fun party games. As evening came we visited Mike's parents who let the kids Trick or Treat for their favorite cold cereal box (so cute!) then headed back to the neighborhood for the rest of the night. We have such a great group of people we get to live by and friends of all ages were out visiting as we sipped hot chocolate and threw footballs in the rain.

It was so much fun! And by the way, am I the only one who agrees that Halloween Candy has really taken it up a notch since I was a kid? I was so happy if I could get 3 or 4 mini candy bars...this is just a small sample of this years loot!

DC Trip

Mike and I have been planning our "10 Year" Anniversary trip (can't even believe it is almost here - the anniversary I mean) for a while and because of my fantastic mother who watched our little kidlets, we got to go! He had work to do there at the Federal Patent Office at the same time so I got to veg out - seriously. I woke up when I wanted, ate when I wanted, napped when I wanted, blogged when I wanted, and ate MORE when I wanted! I had forgotten how to do all that stuff. It was only our second time being there and we had so many sites to visit. One of our favorites was the DC Temple, we had to take the metro (Mike is a wiz on this subway - he is pretty used to it now since he visits DC quite abit) then catch a bus to get there. SO BEAUTIFUL.

We really enjoyed all the diverse people we got to meet as we traveled. A young man we met from Africa who currently just moved to DC from his family kindly helped us as we searched for the right bus to transfer too. As we visited he commented how "fast" we grow up in the states. Really made us stop and think "why?" do we do this to ourselves? Secondly was one of our taxi drivers. She was from Ethiopia and had won the Lottery Green Card with her two daughters who were in high school at the time. I asked her if they were scared to move so far and she said replied yes, but they knew it would be worth it. Another deep moment for us to think about how lucky we are to be here in Freedom and Liberty.

This brings me to our final experiences that affected us so much. In the last 24 hours of the trip we visited Thomas Jefferson's Memorial, Abraham Lincoln's Memorial, WWII Memorial and the Arlington Cemetery as we witnessed the changing of the guards. This is a must see for anyone going there. We learned the guards are so specifically trained for this honor requiring deep study of our country's patriotism and codes of complete silence for 3 weeks. They were absolutely perfect as they guarded the TOMB OF THE UNKNOWN SOLDIER. We left so affected by the thousands of thousands of grave sites spread through this sacred site.

Amazingly, as we stepped off the plane in Salt Lake, we were greeted by BACA Bikers holding flags, cameraman and a dozen soldiers in line. We waited for a moment to watch clearly the approaching soldier returning home. My eyes filled with tears as I heard a strong shout out and salute for this man as he came down the stairs with his wife and family, greeted by not only loved ones but many strangers just like us who were so grateful to be a part of such a wonderful moment.

Regardless if we all agree with our countries politics or not, none of us can deny the special blessing that is ours to live here in a place where thousands have suffered deep hardships beyond most of our minds abilities to imagine, even giving up their precious lives and leaving dear ones behind, so we can worship how, when, and where we may. This gift is all of ours to cherish every day and our trip to DC this week really helped us to better remember it.

A Week of Good Times!

This blogging thing has really got me going! Each day a new buddy pops up that I haven't heard from in a while and it just brightens my day. Thanks to all of you for posting a blurb so I "blog stalk" you right back! I am lovin it...
We had a great week full of all the good things in life: holiday smiles, BYU cheers (and tears), family time and watching the first snow fall of the year (a child's dream and a mommies tired "sigh" meaning she will once again take the snow clothes on and off again at least 500 times in the next few months - and still love it).

The first of many Halloween outings with the boys (Karly seems to have already outgrown the desire to wear a costume, or at least skipped it entirely).

All my boys intently watching the BYU game this week (sad sad day).

The boys love their cousins and got to see them at a baby blessing for cousin Nu'u.

The first snowfall of the season and we loved playing in it (especially now that we have grass instead of mudd).

Happy Trails Everyone!
